Icarus (2017)

Icarus is an Oscar winning film directed by Bryan Fogel. Grigory Rodchenkov is a Russian scientist who was the director of Russia’s anti-doping laboratory. Rodechenkov was involved in the state-run doping scandal. He was the mastermind in creating substances to help Russian athletes exceed in the Olympic competitions. Additionally, Rodechenkov switched urine samples to evade detection. In 2014, Rodchenkov fled Russia and came to the United States. He told the truth about the entire doping operation to the New York Times. Rodchenkov’s revelations urged an investigation by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) resulting of the Russian athletic team to be banned from the Rio Olympics.

I was actually surprised that I was unaware by this scandal. I find it baffling that this is a truly intricate system that overlooked the ethical and moral principles. I am honestly terrified of the Russian government. They are extremely shady and corrupt. I honestly believe the Russian governments’ solution to everything are assassinations. Yikes! This documentary truly uncovered a massive conspiracy. I believe Fogel did a fantastic job! This documentary was compelling.
